Commonstock Chamath
Post media

I wasn't planning on posting any memos until the week kicks off but man my jaw dropped while listening to this podcast this morning. The whole podcast is great but if you skip to 25:15, Chamath lays out why I think @commonstock is a total game-changer for investors big or small and how it can be used to help educate and build a community to help people achieve financial freedom.

"I think that if more people believe that they can be economically self-sufficient, I think that it would solve a lot of the societal implications on inequity"

"If we can give people a more reasonable roadmap where they can execute it, they can learn, and they can have a community of other like-minded folks, that can put in the time and the work and help each other, over 5,10,15,20 years, to compound capital, no matter how small, but just to start, I think you'd be surprised at how many people are intellectually capable of achieving financial freedom on their own."

He gives the example of Tesla.

"There was so much knowledge that helped us feel like we were making the right decision. That existed in this long tail of people who took it upon themselves, to build a community of people that wanted to understand the company. Not necessarily to be a blind cheerleader, but they would really go and double click, and they were doing a level of work that was incredible."

"Typically what would happen, you would put your money into a bank account, you would open a brokerage account, maybe you would get access to some research, or maybe an advisor would recommend something to you, or maybe you'd end up on some random community and read some random forum and buy something. Instead, these were physicists, and chemists, financial people all coming together to understand these things. They were writing research notes, they were putting out youtube video clips, and if you took the time to understand it, that community was helping you understand something really important that was happening in the world and you could've financially participated"

"So what there's an opportunity now to do is to curate and cultivate a community around that, to help people. I think that it would be a really useful thing to level the playing field so that whether you're a mom and pop school teacher with 5 or 10k, you're a new grad with 1k saved up, or an accredited investor. I would like to treat them all equally. "
"Here's how I see the world. Here are ways I think that you could participate beside me as my partner, and if you want to you can. I'll always put my money on the line"

**"If we can organize that in some useful way, I think that we can help a lot of people achieve freedom"

THIS IS @commonstock! I realize Chamath and Social Capital participated in funding some of CS, but I think he eloquently lays out why I believe that this platform is so incredible and the future is so bright!
