Every month I put aside some money into a portfolio aimed at long-term bets over the next 20 years. I will be gifting this portfolio to my future kids someday- in the hopes of using it as an educational tool alongside the memos I write to teach them about the world and to have a shared activity to work on together as they grow up.
I made a buy for the portfolio last month, but I missed posting about it, because
I got married!Needless to say, this is a pretty big step forward for the portfolio's main objectives π
Here is the performance so far from the first eight months:
April and May's buys were for for Kulicke & Soffa and The Trade Desk, respectively.
The Trade Desk is a big player in the Ad Tech space, an area I see continuing to grow significantly in the years to come.
$TTD is a "demand side platform" which means they make software that is used by advertisers to buy mobile, search, and video ads from a marketplace on which publishers list advertising inventory. (Check out
this memo from
@parrot for an overview of the adTech space)
Advertising β the currency that makes most digital media possible β needs to evolve. Marketers need access to the data to place media effectively. Content creators and publishers need to be able to monetizing their platforms.
The Trade Desk is an independent media-buying platform focused solely on the buy side. They empower advertisers with data, transparency, and precision to reach the right audience anywhere. And in turn, that helps power the content that fuels the free and open internet.
A long term bet on The Trade Desk is a bet that transparency and price discovery in the ad buying process will become more and more useful. I'll take that bet.
